WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

What Dynamics GP end of support means for your business

COMPLIANCE · FROM 2030

No more tax or regulatory updates

As rules and regulations change, GP won't receive updates to reflect them. You'll need to consider how to keep your processes up to date, including payroll or year-end reporting.

SECURITY · FROM MAY 2031

No more security patches

Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes for GP, so you'll need to think about how best to keep your systems and data protected.

STANDING STILL · ALREADY

No new features, ever

GP will remain as it is, with no new features or enhancements. As your business grows, you may find it harder for your system to keep up with changing needs.

THE COST OF WAITING

Why leaving it until 2029 could cost you more

The deadline might feel a long way off, but moving to a new ERP system takes time, planning and investment. Starting early gives you more time to explore your options, plan your budget and get everything in place without rushing.

Leave it too late, and you could face tighter timescales, fewer options and additional pressure to get everything done.

Why waiting could cost you more

Less time to get it right

Rushing an ERP project can mean cutting corners on data cleansing and testing, increasing the risk of problems after go-live.

Fewer available experts

As the deadline gets closer, ERP partners and consultants are likely to become busier, making it harder to secure the support you need.

Less time to plan your budget

Getting approval for a new ERP system can take time, sometimes a full financial year. Starting early gives you more room to plan.

Limited cut-over windows

Many businesses prefer to switch ERP systems at the end of a financial year. Miss that window and you could be waiting another 12 months.

YOUR OPTIONS

Dynamics GP alternatives: what are your options?

Business Central is Microsoft's recommended route off GP, but it isn't the only one. Here are the three paths most GP users weigh up.

OPTION 1

Stay on GP

Lowest effort today, but no updates after 2029 and no security patches after April 2031. A short-term choice that only delays the decision.

OPTION 2

Move to another ERP

Business Central and other finance systems are all options. Compare each on scope, total cost, deployment choices and the partner who'll deliver it.

OPTION 3

Switch to Odoo

One modular platform for finance, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, CRM, projects and HR. Run it in the cloud or on your own servers, delivered by a UK Odoo Gold Partner.

FAQS

Dynamics GP end of life: frequently asked questions

Mainstream support for Microsoft Dynamics GP ends on 31 December 2029. After that there are no enhancements, tax or regulatory updates, or standard technical support. Security updates continue until 30 April 2031, when GP is fully out of support.

No. GP will still run, but without tax and regulatory updates from 2030 and without security patches after 30 April 2031. That makes it increasingly hard to stay compliant and secure.

No. Business Central is Microsoft's recommended route, but you can move to any ERP. Many GP users choose Odoo because it brings finance, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, CRM and HR into one modular platform that can run in the cloud or on your own servers.

It depends on your modules, add-ons, integrations and how much history you bring across. We confirm a timeline after a discovery phase. Starting early lets you plan go-live around a fiscal year end and run GP and Odoo in parallel.

Typically your chart of accounts, customers, vendors, items, opening balances and open transactions, plus as much historical data as you need for reporting and audit.

Yes. Odoo's UK localisation includes a UK chart of accounts, VAT setup and Making Tax Digital VAT returns submitted to HMRC, which we configure for your business.

Yes. Odoo can run as Odoo Online (SaaS), on Odoo.sh, or on your own servers or private cloud.

Now. Budget approval, data preparation and testing all take time, and partner capacity tightens as the 2029 deadline approaches. Planning in 2027 gives most businesses a calm go-live well before support ends.
