The latest iteration of Odoo, version 13, was released at the end of 2019 – and we think there is plenty to get excited about. In this blog, we’re taking a closer look at what’s new in Odoo 13.

There is a range of new apps and modules, designed to streamline and optimise processes from the management of your field-based workforce to the administration of promotions and discount schemes. As ever with Odoo’s open-source platform, these can be tailored to suit your unique needs. They include:

Field services management referral app

Does your organisation include remote, field-based workers, such as those who travel to appointments with customers or those who carry out checks and maintenance on your company assets across a wide geographical area? The new field services management referral app enables you to manage the activity for each field-based worker on a granular level, scheduling and dispatching work in a responsive way and integrating this information with areas such as billing and accounting.

Skills Management Module

An extended version of the Employee module that already exists within Odoo, the Skills Management module enables a granular approach to manage the skills of every individual within your workforce. From organising and filtering employee or applicant CVs to conducting training sessions to ensure that all employees of a particular level are appropriately skilled up, this module enables you to take a centralised and strategic approach to manage your workforce’s skillset.

Sales Coupons & Promotions Module

In a highly competitive retail landscape, both online and offline, savvy businesses are getting creative in terms of marketing promotions, discounting and loyalty solutions. The new sales coupons and promotions module makes it easier for you to implement these features and ensures that they are seamlessly integrated with broader sales, marketing, and inventory management processes within your business.

E-learning Module

E-learning has myriad business applications, from training and development courses for personnel within your organisation, to developing guides and resources for your customers. E-learning was available in Odoo 12 only as the Slides module, whereas now it has been expanded into a sophisticated module with the option of creating multiple courses, multiple lessons within those courses, and offering reward points for actions performed within those courses.

Approval app

This app makes it easier to review and approve requests made by employees for a wide range of items, including business trips, car rentals, borrowing items from the offices, procurement goods or services, and signing new contracts. All approvals are accessed from a single dashboard, granting you granular visibility into the requests made by different staff members and departments, and your own processes of approval.

Referral app

Another app to assist with recruitment and workforce management, this app helps you manage one of the most common sources of new recruits – referrals from existing employees.

These new apps and modules are complemented by an array of smaller improvements and enhancements. For example, a ‘buy now’ button has been added to the e-commerce module by popular request, and Chatter has been made available on Journal and Journal Entry. Documentation layouts can be more easily customised, and the setting dashboard has been removed so that everything is directly integrated into general settings.

Overall, Odoo 13 is much more than a refresh; it offers a sophisticated array of new features and functions and could help take your organisation into a whole new era. For more advice on how to get the most out of Odoo, why not get in touch with us today?
